
Dr. Calvin Monroe

Dr. Calvin Monroe is an accomplished educator, scholar, and advocate whose work centers Black student success, cultural identity, and educational equity. A proud Morehouse College alumnus, Dr. Monroe draws from his transformative HBCU experience to inform his commitment to uplifting historically underserved student populations.
With over 16 years of experience in education, Dr. Monroe has served in pivotal administrative roles, including Dean of Student Services and Director Student Success Offices. In these positions, he led equity-focused initiatives, managed state and federal grants, expanded academic support services, and championed policies to better serve students of Color. His academic leadership is grounded in a deep understanding of institutional systems and a clear vision for student-centered change.
As a professor of Ethnic Studies, and Teach for America Alumni, Dr. Monroe’s teaching is rooted in culturally relevant pedagogy, critical classroom design, and African-centered education. He is passionate about helping educators and institutional leaders build creative, strategic approaches that support the success of Black students, not just academically, but through a holistic lens that prioritizes their emotional, mental, and cultural well-being.
Dr. Monroe earned his doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Saint Mary’s College of California, where his dissertation focused on learning strategies from Black professors to support the success of students of Color in California Community Colleges. His published research explores Black professional imposter syndrome and the representation of Black identity in media, contributing to critical conversations around race, belonging, and educational leadership.
Beyond his professional work, Dr. Monroe enjoys playing the piano, pick-up basketball, and spontaneous dance parties with his 5-year-old son.
